Kala Jataka or the principles of Muhurtha as applied to the birth chart
Perhaps the most complicated and yet unexplored waters of astrology is the application of muhurtha principles to the natal birth chart. This is an area of astrology that may take several years even for the most skilled astrologers to master and may explain some of the finer details of prediction. This is called Kala Jataka. A person is born on a particular day and time. The time of his birth can be broken down to finer divisions and this constitutes the Jataka. Muhurtha is a special dedicated branch of Vedic astrology that deals with the finer division of time to the elemental level. If we break time down to its smallest parts then every fraction of a second something changes! Muhurtha is generally used as a remedy measure to start any event to derive maximum success from that event. But all principles of muhurtha can be applied to the Jataka or the birth chart too. Similar to how we start a new event on an auspicious time, the kala jataka indicates that a person’s soul embarked on a new journey in their present body on the time they were born. Chinese astrology is all based on Kala Jataka. The chart below is a prototype of a Kala Jataka. The various definitions and the glossary of terms are beyond the scope of this article. There are at least 20 different parameters of time that will give different results, which are rapidly changing with just the kala jataka alone. Interested personal may refer to my teacher Ernst Wilhelm’s book “Classical Muhurtha” (Muhurtha book) or take one of his courses (Vedic astrology courses) to understand the finer aspects of Kala Jataka and Muhurtha astrology.
